The days of the internal combustion engine are numbered, and more and more people are turning to electric vehicles, or at the least to a hybrid model. What that means is that all of those drivers need somewhere to charge their car, and that means the installation of a home charging point wherever possible.
Of course, if you live in a flat it may not be possible to install a home charging point, but EV charging stations which are public charging points are springing up all over Scotland and so are workplace charging points.
One of the most common questions we get is about how far you can travel on a single charge. Can you travel long distances? The answer is yes, you can. In the whole of the UK there are presently over 3,500 public charging points installed, and of those getting on for half are rapid chargers which will charge your car 80% in about half an hour.
Furthermore, developments in batteries are enabling them to increase their range. The Tesla Model S can already reach 335 miles, and even the Nissan Leaf e+ will run for 225 miles. Figures in the US show that the average EV should achieve 275 miles by 2022 and possibly as much as 400 by 2028 which is a lot further than you can go on a tank of petrol.
Now is an excellent time to install an electric car charger at home because of the huge amounts of cashback from OLEV and EST. At Jorro, we can install a charging point for you anywhere in Scotland. From July 1st, all charging points have to be “smart” and all of our charging points are fast, safe, and smart. Our Smart Fast Charging Unit Mode 3 will add 25 – 30 miles an hour and costs £999. However, when you include the OLEV and EST cashback a typical installation is just £199.
We can also supply the Project EV Smart Charge Point which has LED lighting and WiFi which allows you to control the charger from your phone or tablet. Installation costs are from £0 to £99 for this model.
